The Dolcetto di Diano d'Alba “Sorì Montagrillo” from the Claudio Alario winery is a generous and fruity red wine produced in Diano d'Alba, in the Piedmont province of Cuneo. The “Sorì Montagrillo” is a vineyard well exposed to the sun; the “Sorì”, or a cru as the French would say, is located at about 300 meters above sea level with a south-east exposure. This label is obtained from pure Dolcetto grapes from vines, about 25 years old, grown with the traditional Guyot method on soils characterized by rich soils of whitish calcareous marl. The winery is an interesting family-run business that owns about 10 hectares, now managed personally by Claudio Alario and his son Matteo who, having eliminated the use of herbicides and synthetic products, are increasingly orienting themselves towards high-quality viticulture.

The “Sorì Montagrillo” Dolcetto is produced with grapes harvested by hand, generally around mid-September. The bunches brought to the cellar are crushed and destemmed, after which they undergo alcoholic fermentation, with maceration on the skins for a few weeks, in horizontal thermo-conditioned stainless steel rotofermenters. The wine is then drawn off, pressed and refined in stainless steel tanks for a period of about 12 months , before being bottled.

The Diano d'Alba Dolcetto “Sorì Montagrillo” by Claudio Alario presents itself to the eye with a bright ruby red color, with a full and characteristic flavor of ripe fruit and berries, including plum, currant, blackberry and blueberry, floral notes of violet and other red flowers, to finish on balsamic and spicy hints, especially licorice. In the mouth it is dry, soft and fresh, with a good tannin and a light bitterish aftertaste in the final sip.
